Today, I’m happy to announce several great pieces of news about the future of Formspring. After nothing short of a phenomenal first year since our launch, with over 20 million registered users and 10 million responses on Formspring every day, our small but mighty team feels lucky to give so many people a fun new way to get to know each other better. We could never have expected to be reporting that we have hit 2 billion responses since we launched, and we have our awesome Formspring members to thank for that – you guys have been busy responding to each other.
Beyond the remarkable number of 2 billion responses already on Formspring lies an exciting road ahead for our growing community. I’m personally thrilled to announce that we’ve received a new round of $11.5 million in funding from a group of investors, led by Redpoint Ventures, that will help us grow our team, scale our site which is visited by 40 million people every month, as well as innovate and expand the Formspring service so we can reach millions more people in new ways.
To kick off the new year, and show a bit of what is ahead, we’re also releasing a new product today: the Formspring Respond button. The Respond button takes the natural & personal responses people are already sharing with friends on Formspring and extends this experience to the entire Web. This means any Formspring member can respond to any content online, whether it’s an article, a product or a photo.
Sites and publishers can use the Respond button in a variety of ways to spark new, meaningful responses from their visitors, as well as get traffic back to their sites when people share what they have to think about the content with their friends on Formspring. Several sites participated in a pilot program with us to make sure the Respond button was flexible and really served a need – and we’re excited to say that you can begin experiencing it now at IGN, AskMen, Uproxx and The Huffington Post. Any site – large or small – can try out the Respond button today – whether it is placed within an article, or used to ask a “Question of the Day,” it gives sites a new way to interact with their visitors and we are excited to see the many ways it will be used in the coming months.
Those are just a few updates from the team here in San Francisco. We will have more product updates soon, and want to thank all of our amazing members for helping us create such a unique and fun place to be on the Web. We’ll share more about what’s ahead soon.
